Microsoft Office 2007 is a version of Microsoft Office, a family of office suites and productivity software for Windows, developed and published by Microsoft. It was released to manufacturing on November 3, 2006; it was subsequently made available to volume license customers on November 30, 2006, and later to retail on January 30, 2007, the same respective release dates of Windows Vista. It was preceded by Office 2003 and succeeded by Office 2010.
Microsoft Office 2007 (codenamed Office 12[5]) is an office suite for Windows, developed and published by Microsoft. It was officially revealed on March 9, 2006 and was the 12th version of Microsoft Office. It was released to manufacturing on November 3, 2006;[6] it was subsequently made available to volume license customers on November 30, 2006,[7][8] and later to retail on January 30, 2007,[1] shortly after the completion of Windows Vista. The ninth major release of Office for Windows, Office 2007 was preceded by Office 2003 and succeeded by Office 2010. The Mac OS X equivalent, Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac, was released on January 15, 2008.
Microsoft Office 2007 introduced a new file format, called Office Open XML, as the default file format. Such files are saved using an extra X letter in their extension (.docx/xlsx/pptx/etc.). However, it can still save documents in the old format, which is compatible with previous versions. Alternatively, Microsoft has made available a free add-on known as the Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack that lets Office 2000, XP, and 2003 open, edit, and save documents created under the newer 2007 format.[41]
Initially, Microsoft promised to support exporting to Portable Document Format (PDF) in Office 2007. However, due to legal objections from Adobe Systems, Office 2007 originally did not offer PDF support out of the box, but rather as a separate free download.[43][44][45] However, starting with Service Pack 2, Office allows users to natively export PDF files.[46]
Microsoft backs an open-source effort to support OpenDocument in Office 2007, as well as earlier versions (up to Office 2000), through a converter add-in for Word, Excel and PowerPoint, and also a command-line utility.[48] As of 2008, the project supports conversion between ODF and Office Open XML file formats for all three applications.[49] According to ODF Alliance this support falls short and substantial improvements are still needed for interoperability in real-world situations.[50][51]Third-party plugins able to read from and write to the ISO-standard Open Document Format (ODF) are available as a separate download.[52][53]
The new Word 2007 features for bibliographies only support a small number of fixed citation styles. Using XSLT, new styles can be added. Some extra styles, such as the standard Association for Computing Machinery publication format, are made freely available by third parties.[114]

Please read the PowerPoint Viewer download page which includes this statement:You may use the fonts that accompany the PowerPoint Viewer only to display and print content from a device running a Microsoft Windows operating system.I am not a lawyer, but I wonder whether having Windows in dual boot or virtualization satisfies this requirement. If you want a free-as-in-speech alternative, use font replacement.
Just download and install PowerPoint Viewer 2007. Alternatively, you could use the Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack, but a much larger download. Both downloads are free and neither require Windows Genuine Advantage validation.
I think there are a few places where the above substitution table is misleading. Specifically, I'd make the following substitutions from old-style Windows fonts to free fonts (I offered multiples where they're very similar in look and/or metrics.)Arial -> FreeSans, Liberation Sans, Caslon Roman, URW Helvetica or Nimbus SansTimes New Roman -> FreeSerif, Liberation Serif, Linux Libertine or Nimbus Roman (or Gentium if you want something a little more Garamondesque)Georgia -> Bitstream Vera Serif or DejaVu SerifTrebuchet MS -> Lucida SansLucida Console -> Bitstream Vera Sans Mono, DejaVu Sans Mono, Liberation Mono, Lucida Sans TypewriterCourier New -> FreeMono, URW CourierBook Antiqua/Palatino -> URW Palladio/Palatino Tahoma -> DejaVu Sans Condensed or Toga SansVerdana -> Bitstream Vera Sans or DejaVu SansSo there's really no need to be downloading pirated Vista fonts. I don't think the absence of common fonts is really an issue for free software anymore, just the lack of proprietary font names.
Hi Andrew, thank u so much for theses tips, i ve a question please: can i find with theses fonts: ""MS Reference Serif;Palatino Linotype"" and ""Wingdings 3"" i ve many documents with specials characters writing under windows, which i was able to read with microsoft office word.. but now i m using ubuntu and i can't read themthanks in advance
Here is how to get a lot more fonts (all that are shipped with the trial / complete version of MS Office). -installare-i-font-di-microsoft-office-2007-in-linux/ It's in Italian but you can understand the commands and maybe auto translate it... It comes with Lucida Grande, Webdings 2, and a lot of other.
Just wanted to let you know that the procedure works with PlayOnLinux and Mint 15. More specifically:- download the MS installer- install it to a virtual device of your choice following the wizard in PlayOnLinux (I named it microsoft_download)- switch to a terminal, find the installed *.TTF files somewhere below /.PlayOnLinux/wineprefix/microsoft_download/drive_c/windows/Fonts/*.TTF- become root user or use sudo for the following- copy the TTF files to /usr/share/fonts/vista (the exact directory name doesn't seem to matter)- call fc-cache -fv- restart LibreOffice (or OpenOffice) :-)
